The diploma thesis is evaluated by the consultant, or by the trainer you have chosen, or it has the given topic of the thesis. Another evaluator is the opponent of the thesis, whose task is to critically evaluate several important and predetermined criteria of work through the opponent’s review of the thesis. However, it is necessary to distinguish whether the work has a compilation (summarizing knowledge from different sources) or an experimental (based on experiments / experiments) character.
Criteria in opponent review
The least weight in the opponent’s review of the thesis is the choice of the topic and the aim of the work, which is evaluated by the maximum number of points. 5. It is important that the topic is linked to the completed study program. The aim of the work should be clear, concise and follow-up to the chosen topic. The maximum of 10 points (only for the experimental character of the thesis) is evaluated:
- the level of literature processing
- logical breakdown
- relevance to topic and goal of work
- correct citation and bibliographic reference list by standard.
The review of the diploma thesis must also include an assessment of the timeliness and adequacy of literary sources. It is rated at a maximum of 10-15 points. There should be no domestic or foreign scientific literature that includes monographs, journals and proceedings. Of course, it is also possible to use internet resources, but in this case it is good to avoid lay, unprofessional sites.
A maximum of 10 points is also evaluated by the work methodology.
Expertise and procedures must be properly defined. The procedure for processing experiments and statistical methods must also be correct. Work must be reproducible.
The most important criterion to be evaluated by the opponent is the results of the work and the discussion (35-40 points), where all the knowledge gained through a thorough study of the scientific sources, but also all the results obtained by the research, must be related to the achievement of the objective of the work.
The final parts of the review are the conclusion and use in practice (10 points) and the formal processing of the final thesis (15 points). Opponent’s review of the thesis must evaluate compliance with the structure, proportionality of individual parts, processing tables, graphs etc.
